ACU Academy Nutrition & Fitness Information

Introduction    January 2008    November 2008    February 2009

BlueSkies have provided physiological and nutritional support to the ACU Academy Riders since 2002.  During this time, we have developed a detailed understanding of what it takes to be the best in the various motor-cycling disciplines supported by the ACU Academy.

BlueSkies deliver the ACU Academy physiology and nutrition  programme, performing physiological assessments, analysing dietary practices and educating the riders & their parents about fitness & nutrition.

Introduction

Motorcycling is traditionally a sport where fitness is under-rated but this is beginning to change.  The new breed of successful, championship winning riders are fitter than ever before and this means that riders who want to be champions must consider their fitness.  It is now common to see top riders warming up on exercise bikes before their races to ensure that they optimise their performance and many will have multi-gyms in their trailers.  If you want to be a champion, you need to be fit!

In addition to fitness, your diet is also extremely important to your success.  A good diet will ensure that you get the most out of yourself during the time you spend on your bike.  A poor diet, on the other hand, will lead to premature fatigue, poor recovery and sub-optimal performance.  However, getting your diet right is easy and is not expensive.  Top athletes in all sports, including motorcycling, realise the importance of a good diet.

November 2008

Congratulations to all riders who took part on 22nd November 2008 at Lilleshall National Sports Centre - you really did give us 100% effort and attention!

Those who attended in January have, on the whole, shown improvements in fitness.  For the 'new' riders, you have shown a good baseline fitness level which can now be developed into 'sport-specific' fitness.  Well done everyone!

As promised, we have uploaded the Fitness Circuit that we taught you.  This is available in the Member's Area of our website and you can access it by clicking here.  You will need the username and password provided with your report to access the Member's Area. The username and password will give you 8 week's complimentary access to the Member's Area.

Most of the exercises in the circuit require little or no equipment, in fact the whole circuit can be performed with just a skipping rope and a resistance band.  If you would like to purchase resistance bands, you may be interested in taking a look at BlueSkies shop.

If this was your first BlueSkies day or you need to be reminded of the fitness information provided for you in January, you can access the ACU Fitness Information Handbook by clicking here. You will be taken to your e-book which you can download or print.

The dietary analyses we performed with you, highlighted personal improvements that can be easily achieved and you now have your goals to work towards for next time.  For more information on nutrition & diet and how to achieve balance, you can read our articles by clicking here.

February 2009

Well done to all those who took part in the day on February 14th 2009 at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham - a great way to spend Valentine's day, we're sure you'll agree!

We hope that you found the day informative and enjoyable and that it's given you some food for thought.  In particular, we hope that you are now able to schedule your training more effectively to ensure that you gain the optimal benefits from the time you devote to your fitness.

The fitness testing, once again, showed that you all have a good base-level of fitness which can now be built upon to result in sport-specific fitness.  Most of the exercises that we discussed on 14th February, can be performed with just a stability ball and a resistance band.  If you would like to purchase equipment such as this, you may be interested in taking a look at BlueSkies shop.

Your reports have been e-mailed to you individually.  To find out more about what the results mean, you can read or download the Explanation of Results booklet by clicking here.  However, if you have any questions, please contact us by using the link at the bottom of this page.
