We hope that you enjoyed the Health, Safety & Well-Being Day that was held at the Department of Culture, Media & Sport on 4th November 2008.  If you have any comments about the day, we would love to hear them - you can e-mail us by clicking here

As part of our on-going support for the DCMS, BlueSkies have made the following information freely available to you.  The links below allow you to access up-to-date guidelines and information to help you make any changes to your lifestyle that you wish to make following the Health & Well-Being Day.

Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease

If you had a BlueSkies Health MOT on 4th November, you've already taken the first important step towards reducing your risk of heart disease - you know your numbers!

Your Health MOT may have identified factors that you can improve to reduce your risk of developing heart disease in the future and this information will help you do this.  However, even if you are perfectly healthy now, this information is worth a read as it provides tips to help you stay this way.

To visit the Reduce Your Heart Disease Risk homepage, click here.  From this page, you will be able to access sound, evidence-based advice on:

  • Reducing your weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) & waist circumference
  • Lowering your blood pressure & your risk of developing hypertension
  • Improving your cholesterol profile & information on hypercholesterolemia
  • Reducing your risk of diabetes & hyperglycemia and managing these conditions if you have them

To get through to the Member's Area, you will need the username and password that you were given during your Health MOT.

Improve Your Posture

If you visited the Posture Management stand, you will have been shown several exercises to help improve your posture using the free resistance band that you received in your 'Goodie Bag'.  The exercises you were shown are beneficial if you have poor posture and need to re-balance your muscular development.

There is more information on posture - why it's important, what good posture involves and how to achieve it - on our website and you can access this by clicking here.   We have also put some stretching exercises online for you which are useful for alleviating posture related aches & pains and many of them can be performed at your desk - click here to find out more about these.

Resistance bands can be used to perform a whole host of other exercises too.  You can even complete a whole body workout at your desk - who says you've not got time to exercise?!

BlueSkies Seated Workout is a whole body exercise programme that uses just a chair and a resistance band and it is suitable for almost anybody.  For more information about our seated workout, click here

Balance Your Diet

BlueSkies believe that life is all about balance and this is true of dietary intake too!  The old adage of 'everything in moderation' couldn't be more appropriate as far as food and drink is concerned.  Well, maybe with the exception of fruit and veg!

If you visited the Healthy Diet & Lifestyle stand, you may have found out more about how to balance your diet and you will have had the chance to see whether your servings have been supersized recently!  For more information on how to balance your diet, you can visit our Nutrition & Diet resource pages

You may also have questions about your diet, so why not visit our FAQ section by clicking here

Manage Your Weight

If your Health MOT revealed that your health would benefit from a reduction in your weight, do you know how to achieve this?

We find that many people who want to lose weight have tried every diet available to them and more often than not they've been successful....in the short term!  The problem that a lot of people encounter is that they do not manage to achieve sustainable, long-term weight loss.

BlueSkies know that fad-diets don't work - they just can't be maintained long-term and this typically results in any weight which has been lost being put back on, often with a bit more to boot!  This led us to create BetterShape - our own weight management plan which is simple, safe and effective.

If you are looking for a weight management programme that helps you to change your habits resulting in simultaneous lifestyle change and weight loss, BetterShape may be just the thing you're looking for.  For more information on BetterShape, click here.  Remember, we offer very competitive workplace discounts!
